Champ de Bataille
Built in the 17th century for the Marechal de Crequi, the magnificent Chateau du Champ-de-Bataille castle and its formal gardens lie between the small villages of Le Neubourg and Sainte-Opportune-du-Bosc in the Eure department of Normandy.
The golf course located in the southeast region of the estate is an Robin Nelson design, built together and landscape architects Thierry Huau, and Herve Rosset. The course has fairways cut through thick woodland during the time of development in the latter part of the 1980s.
The course is a little over 6,000m long and playing up to a par 72 It is played in an out-and back fashion that is only allowing golfers to go back to the clubhouse following the 18th. The course's most notable holes include the aquifer-filled 5th, par 3 hole and the difficult hole that is a par-4.
The Peugeot Golf Guide provides a description of the course as follows: this edited version:
"This challenging course is a wonderful walk through the woods where magnificent trees provide plenty of space for fairways of decent size. The stale first and final holes, inspired by French-style gardens are now replaced by some holes that were designed by J.M. Rossi."
