Chapel-en-le-Frith

The original course at Chapel-en-le-Frith Golf Club was a 9-hole layout that served the members for almost seventy years before it was finally expanded to an 18-hole layout by Peter Alliss and Dave Thomas in the early 1970s.

Today, the course extends to just over 6,400 yards from the back tees, with par set at 72. The newer holes (1-7 and 17-18) are laid out closest to the clubhouse north of the B5470, with the original nine holes occupying ground on the other side of the road, east of Combs reservoir.

Highlight holes include the short par four 3rd, where a pond protects the front of the green, and the slightly left doglegging par four 5th which plays to a tiered green that slopes from back left to front right.

On the shorter back nine, the 491-yard 15th is the only par five on the inward half, with the fairway bending right to the green and the reservoir framing the left of the hole. The uphill par four 18th then requires an aerial approach over water to the three-tiered home green.

World Top 100 Golf Courses

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
