Chartham Park
Its 18-hole design in Chartham Park is located just outside East Grinstead, with holes designed following an original layout created by eight-time Ryder Cup player Neil Coles and well-known designer David Williams. The course was first opened in 1992. this beautiful parkland course is adorned with water hazards in half each hole on the scorecard.
The course is currently 6,680 yards from the tip with 72 holes and the holes are arranged in two return nines. The most notable holes are the strong par fours on both the 12th and 6th as well as the signature 16th that doglegs away from a green that is beyond a huge, carp-filled lake.
The Architect David Williams told us:
"Chartham Park was among Neil's first courses that he set out on his own after splitting his time with Brian Huggett in their practice Huggett Coles & Associates.
I was employed by them for three years until they broke up. I was a part of them individually for a few years before becoming a solely for Neil who was the chairman of the European Tour at the time
Chartham Park was originally called Chartham Manor, and was constructed through American Golf, who were developing East Sussex National at about the same time."
