Château de Raray (La Licorne)

Designed by Patrice Leglise in 1987, the 18-hole La Licorne layout at Château de Raray is set around a beautiful old 17th century listed building, complemented by the 9-hole Le Daguet course and a short 9-hole pitch and putt track called Le Faon.

The golf facility is one of more than fifty golf facilities operated by the UGOLF management company in France and Spain, with La Licorne as the star attraction here. Extending to 6,145 metres and playing to a par of 72, the course is configured as two retuning nines, each of which features two par threes and two par fives.

Highlights include the left doglegged par four 4th, which transitions play from open terrain into densely wooded territory, and the tough par four 7th, rated stroke index 2. The long par three 16th emerges from the forest, bringing players back to more open ground for a couple of holes before the round ends at the 426-metre 18th, the longest par four on the back nine.

“The open country holes have a links feel about them, others wind their way through a beautiful forest. The whole course is very open-handed with real but reasonable technical difficulties and a few natural-looking ditches that come into play. The bunkers are discreet in design, pleasant to look at and strategically placed.”
