Château Royale d’Ardenne

We don’t know who designed the course at the Royal Golf Club du Château Royal d’Ardenne but we do know that it was constructed by the royal appointment of King Léopold II, opening as a 9-hole layout back in 1895.

Carved out of the beautifully wooded countryside of the Ardennes, the course was refurbished by Baron Gaston Braun shortly after the Second World War and expanded from 12 holes to its present 18-hole set up in 1992.

Trees of many varieties line the undulating fairways here on a layout that concludes with a highly unusual configuration of holes that comprises a pair of par threes at 15 and 16, followed by a brace of par fives at 17 and 18.

World Top 100 Golf Courses

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
