Chorley Golf Club was established at Hall o'th' Hill with a 9-hole course in 1897. Within a few years, it appears that the club moved to Queens Road, Chorley on the Astley Hall Estate which is the site of Parklands High School and playing fields.
Chorley returned to the Hall o' th' Hill estate in 1925, with Jack Steer, the Blackpool South Shore professional, designing a new 18-hole layout for the club for a fee of £25.00. The new course officially opened for play in June 1926.
Today, the course measures just under 6,300 yards from the back tees, playing to a par of 71 (35 out then 36 in), with holes arranged as two returning nines across a property that extends to around 110 acres.
Notable holes include the slightly left doglegging 2nd (the only par five on the outward half); the long par four 5th (rated stroke index 1); the tough par four 11th (rated stroke index 2); and the most difficult par three on the card at the 209-yard 18th.
