Course layout makes no sense.

Had a very enjoyable game but “Shirley” doesn’t match NZ’s better courses.

Formerly a traditional parkland style course, Christchurch Golf Club has gone through a significant restoration over the last few years towards a quasi-links feel.

Hard and challenging bunkers greens are well kept and nice fairways to hit off good location too

This was a nice experience - almost like playing Victoria Club in Melbourne.

Returned here a week ago for the first time in about 20 years and thought the course had improved significantly on my last visit.

One of the oldest clubs in New Zealand, this club is home to former Open winner Sir Bob Charles.

Christchurch Golf Club dates back to 1873, making it the second oldest club in New Zealand.

I played "Shirley", as it's known locally, before the earthquake and had a tremendous day at a friendly course, certainly more enjoyable than some of the more modern courses nearby.

I think the most important point to make to an international visitor about the Shirley course is that there’s no sign of the earthquake damage it suffered last year (substantial liquefaction), unless you really know where to look (I didn’t, and I didn’t spot anything).
