Clandeboye (Ava)
18 holes were built on the Clandeboye Golf Club in 1933 and was designed by the the local merchant of linen William Renwick Robinson. Later, the layout was divided into two with the original nine holes situated to from the north of the clubhouse being retained and nine additional holes added to create the Ava. The Dufferin was created through similar procedures to the original nine holes.
in the novel Hooked in the book Hooked, the author Kevin Markham has this to comment on The Ava: "the course is very tight in certain areas and it's incredibly small and the greens are a bit tiny The course also moves more than the Dufferinthe Dufferin. You'll find lots of blind shots.and some good carry options are needed over gorse. A few holes are "hit and hope however that doesn't mean they are not any less thrilling.
It's the type of golf that requires common sense since you only are not able to see all the holes. They can curve around banks, corners and trees, and over gorse or uphill and downhill. There are the raging fairways that could fling your ball off without even realizing it. A flashing drive could cause havoc... This is the fun that makes it an enjoyable golf course."
