Cliffs at Keowee Falls
Featuring the crystal clear waters of Falls Creek, which flows through the layout, the Cliffs at Keowee Falls is a Jack Nicklaus Signature design that first opened for play in 2007. The course was the second 18-hole layout that Jack completed for The Cliffs private residential communities, having previously designed the Cliffs at Walnut Grove course in the Asheville region two years earlier.
In The American Private Golf Club Guide, author Daniel Wexler describes the course as “an attractively rolling mountain layout [with] its best run of holes in the mid-section, including the 396-yard 8th (a sharp dogleg right around water), the 588-yard creek-lined 9th, the driveable 327-yard 10th and the 168-yard 11th, which plays downhill to a creek-guarded green.
Two of the par fives later anchor the homestretch: the 546-yard 16th (an option-laden test due, once more, to the creek) and the 535-yard 18th, a reachable finisher guarded by a front-left pond. Toss in a pair of particularly long par threes (248-yard 7th and 232-yard 17th) and Keowee adds up to a tough but pleasant round.”

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
