Cliffs at Mountain Park
The Cliffs at Mountain Park is a Gary Player design, with fourteen fairways routed alongside the North Saluda River. There’s also an exciting 4-hole finish – called “The Joust” – which offers golfers tantalizing risk-reward opportunities at the end of the round.
Opened for play in 2013, Mountain Park is the newest of the seven courses in The Cliffs Communities that stretch across western North and South Carolina. An 8th development, High Carolina near Asheville – which was to partner with Tiger Woods at one time – is still on hold.
A friendly front tee yardage of 5,019 can be stretched to a mighty 7,213 yards from the tips, offering players a wide range of playing options. Green sizes are large, with open approaches that allow the ground game to flourish but the extent of the bunkering – some 13 acres in total – will surprise many.
For those who might think that’s a rather harsh assessment, you’re invited to take a closer look at the course layout via the satellite option of Google Maps and see just how many enormous sand hazards have been incorporated into the design.

World Top 100 Golf Courses
The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
