Congressional is one of those courses that if you haven't played it, exudes mystique. OOooh Washington DC (actually it's in Maryland). Oooh it's named Congressional, there must be a lot of Congressmen that belong there (no, not actually). Oooh it must have an amazing layout (actually it's not that great). Yes, the recent redesign by Andrew Green is great. But the best things about Congressional are 1) location 2) prestige of it being hard to get a tee time there and 3) the views of the amazing clubhouse from the course. Most of the photos I took on the course were not of the course but of the clubhouse. I can think of two truly memorable holes, the par 3 near the water and 18, the downhill par 4 because of the truly scary approach is you, like me, tend to worry about over drawing your shots. The conditions there were amazing. The course is tough. The greens were actually very tough - a little Jack Nicklaus like - multiple tiers - a little too tough and wonky - hitting the middle and it being bad sometimes. All in all, Congressional is one of those places that doesn't live up to the hype or the mystique.
