Conwy is perhaps the unsung gem of Welsh golf. We played here in lovely June sunshine and found the course in excellent condition with all the playing surfaces running fast and hard. It’s tricky to find fault with Conwy with the exception, perhaps, of road noise from the busy A55 on the 16th, but that aside, this is the real links deal. There’s nothing spectacular about the course but the coastal views are simply stunning. The course rewards solid ball striking which, thankfully, I managed to achieve on the par five 12th. I threaded a drive between the fairway bunkers and then hit a surprisingly good rescue club to fifteen feet and single putted to mark a very rare eagle on my card. On reflection, I cannot disagree with Jim’s comments regarding the crossing fairways at 4 and 10 but this foible doesn’t detract much from what is a very fine golf course. I was very impressed with Conwy Golf Club and I would go out of my way to play here again.
