Copper Rock Golf Course

Copper Rock is one of the newer courses in Southern Utah featuring a more links-y take on desert golf in an area rich with high-caliber courses.

Opened to the public in February of 2020 in Hurricane, Utah, Copper Rock is the brainchild of Gordon Zitting, a long time local to the area. The course sits up against the large ridgeline and offers truly stunning views as you work your way through the routing.

From the back tees, the course plays to 7,227yds and is set up to host elite amateur and professional competition. The course has held the Copper Rock Championship as part of the LPGA Epson Tour since 2021, In 2024, the course added the LPGA Senior Championship to make for a double header of professional women’s golf on back-to-back weekends.

The front nine at Copper Rock plays across the flatter portion of the property and contains some of the best architecture in the routing. The short par-4 third might look straightforward from the tee, but three large berms of rough act as a spine down the center of the fairway enticing golfers to push their tee shots to the elevated green site. The burly par-5 fifth stretches to 602yds with a large snaking green flanked by large berms that serves as an atypical punchbowl measuring 65yds front to back.

After making a late “turn” following the par-4 eleventh hole, elevation is the name of the game from the rest of the routing. Measuring only 491yds, the “short” par-5 eleventh is only short on the card due to playing steadily uphill 75ft. As you work through the remainder back nine, golfers traverse a series of hills sitting at the front of the property. The short downhill par-3 17th provides one last panoramic view of the property with a 50ft downhill tee shot to a confined green complex featuring a small creek short, and scrub brush long.
