County Sligo Golf Club (Colt Championship)

Writing courses reviews is always enjoyable, but it is all the more so when a golf course really captures your heart.

As we stood looking down on the fifth fairway and across the bay beyond, we could understand why this was "The Land of Heart's Desire.

County Sligo (Rosses Point) is yet another example of Harry Colt's brilliance.

County Sligo Golf Club – a classic links, slightly overshadowed by its neighbours.

This is a real quality links course, with so much to offer.

This is a fantastic course.

Rossespoint sits on a peninsula to the north of Sligo, surrounded on two sides by the Atlantic it may not have the dramatic terrain of its near neighbours but it more than makes up for this with its dramatic backdrops.

Perhaps due to its location, County Sligo GC at Rosses Point seems a bit off the radar for golfers traveling to play western links like Lahinch, Tralee, Doonbeg and Ballybunion or the northern classics (RCD, Portrush, Portstewart).

A very fine course, with stunning views in places, and a tough back nine into the prevailing wind.

County Sligo lacks the spectacular dunes and drama of a number of other courses on our trip but offers a high quality test of links golf played in a beautiful setting.
