In 1967, Brecon Golf Club captain, Leslie Watkins and vice-captain John Morrell were instrumental in arranging an acquisition of Penoyre Park (along with its stunning Bath Stone Georgian Mansion) to build a new 18-hole golf course as well as a clubhouse.
Sadly it was not so fortunate that the Penoyre Golf and Country Club was referred to as and was in severe financial problems in the late 1970s and resulted in the demise of the mansion. However, due to a huge fundraising effort that saved the course and a new clubhouse was built and the club was named.
The club is situated on the northern side of Brecon Beacons National Park and known for its spectacular views The course is located at Cradoc Golf Club can best be described, using the words of a golfer as "an arboretum surrounded by the most stunning scenery that can only be described as breathtakingly beautiful".
One of the most beautiful holes in the estate "Rorke's Drift,"" the par 4 6th hole that extends 451 yards from back tees. It is classified as with stroke index 1, on the scorecard. The hole plays towards Penoyre House - now sub-divided into modern apartments the fairway slops left to right, and is no boundaries all the way to the left side and to the right of the hole.
