Review:

What to say about Craigelaw? As a new course, which it is, it's pretty good and has settled into the wonderful landscape well. As a true links course I felt it fell short of expectations. Like Kingsbarns (but no where near as good) it feels too 'manufactured', the fairways are too flat and are not sandy enough and the rough doesn't have that 'wild' feel to it. In fact, the 1st hole which is a short par-4 cracker with big deep fairway bunkers, a deep greenside bunker and a wonderful rolling green sets the expectations early, but somehow the course can't quite keep it going. The course is well laid out with a good mixture of holes, good bunkering and excellent rolling greens with great views out into the Firth but they lack the impact that the 1st hole promised. All in all an enjoyable round and if you are in the area a course to be considered but don't expect buried elephants!
