Apperly's most famous golfing achievement was in 1920 when he became the first golfer from NSW to win the Australian Amateur Championship, beating Tommy Howard in the final at The Australian.
Born in Sydney to Henry Wellstead Apperly and Alice Langton Apperly in 1889, Eric was known as something of a “boy champion” in his formative years, having taken up golf to help overcome ill health. He lost in his first New South Wales Amateur final in 1907 but he would go on to win the event five times between 1912 and 1930 whilst a member at Killara Golf Club then Manly Golf Club.

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
