Damai Indah (Bumi Serpong Damai)
There are two golf courses in the Damai Indah Golf portfolio – Bumi Serpong Damai and Pantai Indah Kapuk – the former is from the Jack Nicklaus-design stable and the latter is a Robert Trent Jones Jnr creation but both are set in totally different locations. Bumi Serpong Damai is located on the outskirts of the West Java city of Tangerang and the Pantai Indah Kapuk course is set on the edge of the Java Sea in North Jakarta.
The Bumi Serpong Damai course at Damai Indah Golf Club in Tangerang was Jack Nicklaus’s inaugural Indonesia design project and the course opened for play in 1992. Measuring 6,545 metres from the tips, Bumi Serpong Damai incorporates many of the Golden Bear’s hallmarks and the famous designer made the following comments: “There is no single 'correct approach' on most holes. Instead, there are many possible solutions, so that the course remains fresh and exciting each time you step up to the first tee. My hope is that members who play regularly will gradually move back their tee shots, and let the course grow with their game. In this way, the ‘Spirit of the Hills’ will always be as fresh and exciting as the first time they play the course.”
“Spirit of the Hills”, as the Bumi Serpong Damai course is sometimes called, was established by Indonesian real estate magnate Ir. Ciputra.
