Peace and tranquility.
The journey starts and ends on the course's namesake, Deer Ridge. That translates to a downhill tee ball on number 1 and an uphill finish on 18. The vast majority of holes offer variety. Subtle changes in elevation supplement a wide variety of shot making challenges. A few large ponds dot the routing.
McBroom offers up a handful of risk/reward options on 1, 3, 12, and 18, all par 5s. I'm guessing 17 and 18 have decided a few competitive events over the years as the rough gives way to trees and the golfer is abruptly confronted with punishment on both sides of the fairway.
As far as peace and tranquillity go, much of the course traces the perimeter of the Grand River and offers up views of the undeveloped countryside. No highway noise, just the sound of nature.
