|The 18-hole layout at the Deltona Club was completely renovated by Bobby Weed in 2007 when tees, fairways and greens were reworked throughout the course and waste areas introduced at a number of holes.|
The renovation brought this old course back to life. The sandy waste areas and ragged bunkers are reminiscent of classic designs or newer Coore/Crenshaw and Gil Hanse designs.
Played Deltona Club two weeks ago after a gap of four years. Unfortunately what was once a quality public access course has deteriorated. The club has issues with bare fairways and I’m not surprised as they’re pushing too many people though the gates. It’s a decent Bobby Weed design with interesting elevation for Florida, but it’s a shadow of its former self and doesn’t deserve a place in the FL hundred. Good golfing options between Orlando and Daytona Beach are very thin on the ground and unfortunately Deltona’s near neighbour at Victoria Hills on the other side of the I-4 has travelled down the same path and is failing to hold on to its former glory days.
