Situated on the southern slopes of the Donnersberg mountain, the highest point of elevation in the Palatinate region, the course at Golf-Club am Donnersberg is a Donald Harradine design which first opened its doors to golfers in the early 1990s.
Extending to 6,239 metres from the back tees, the course plays to a par of 72, with the first eight holes located on almost a separate property to the west side of the clubhouse then the remaining holes played out to the east of a thick dividing tree line. Water hazards feature at several holes during a round here: there’s a couple of ponds positioned to the front right of the right veering short par four7th, with similar aquatic obstacles found to the left of the 9th green, in front of the 15th green and to the left of the fairway on the long par four 17th hole.
Other non-aquatic highlights include the left doglegging par five 2nd (rated stroke index 2); the heavily sand-protected par thee 12th (with four large bunkers surrounding the green); and the 345-metre closing hole, where the fairway moves left late on towards a home green that’s guarded at the front by a large, crescent-shaped bunker.
