Dreamland has been overshadowed by the stellar new additions nearby, but it remains a very enjoyable day out and is the only walkable course in Cairo among these listings.
As a flat, palm-lined course with water the main hazard, it has a lot in common with a typical Florida resort course. The greens are excellent - large and receptive, with enough break in them to keep putting interesting.
Fairways are generous, but they are firm and cut short, requiring crisp ball striking to reach your target. Personally I'd prefer the grass was left a little longer, but each to his own I suppose.
The bunkers could do with a refresh, with the faces needing a bit of work and better distribution of sand to avoid severe plugging.
Minor gripes aside, the bones of the course are excellent, with a variety of challenging holes and shots to deal with. For me the standout holes were the 3rd, a long par-4 to a large raised green which provides a test on every stroke; the 8th, a short Redan par-3 with little room for error, and the 18th, another long par-4 with a raised green, sloping away from front to back and guarded by a lake in front. If your tee shot is short here, you have to decide whether to go for the green with a hybrid/long iron, or lay up. In other words a great finishing hole to test the nerves.
Other fun holes include the 4th, a water carry par-3, and the 6th, a par 5 turning hard left around a lake.
No round at Dreamland should neglect a visit to the 19th hole, which offers delicious, authentic Thai food, perfectly matched to an ice cold Stella.
If you are one of those golfers who prefer a nice walking course over a buggy ride through a housing estate, then Dreamland is the best choice in Cairo. It really is a fun day out, and in the end, isn't that the point?

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
