Review for Duff House Royal

Reviewer Score:

I played Duff House Royal on a lovely day for golf. Sunshine, a little wind and an immaculate course. While it looks a rather benign short parkland course, the test is around the greens. This perhaps a testing ground for the designer's later ventures at Augusta. I wouldn't hesitate to say these were some of the best green complexes I've played on. Wicked undulations, humps and slopes on fast running greens. A gentle opening stretch with a few tree lined short par 4's eventually get more testing from the tee with a few 450y par 4's. I really enjoyed the par 3 9th, with a slanted green and water over the back if you are too aggressive, and the par 5 12th, a short par 5 demanding an accurate draw around the tees and then a beautiful view up to a 2 tiered green with Duff House in the background. Given the land that the course is set on, the course is remarkable. It has a good variety of holes, demanding good shot shaping and accuracy. As I mentioned, a sharp short game is a must, or you can quickly lose shots on the fantastic greens. Really worth making the effort to come, even if you are in the area for the famed links courses.
