Situated south of Grande Prairie in the Peace River Country region of Alberta, the course at Dunes Golf & Winter Club is an early 1990s design overlooking the Wapiti River, with fairways carved from a forest of pine and poplar trees.
The course measures 6,452 yards from the back tees, with par set at 71 (35 out then 36 back). Fairways are configured in two returning 9-hole loops, with water in play at half a dozen holes. Most of the aquatic challenge appears on the back nine, between the 11th and 13th then at the closing two holes.
Highlights include the very short par three 3rd (where a water hazard snakes left from the side of the tee box round the back of the green) and the left doglegging par four 9th which plays back to the clubhouse. On the back nine, the par five 11th veers right from the tee, past a couple of small ponds lying in wait to the front right of the green.
