Dungarvan

The seaside town of Dungarvan lies in the shadow of the Comeragh Mountains at the mouth of the Colligan River, on the south coast of Ireland between Waterford and Cork. It is well served on the golfing front by three local clubs; West Waterford and Gold Coast (both formed in 1993) and the more established Dungarvan, which was founded back in 1924.

Originally constructed as a 9-hole course on the Cunnigar sand spit, Dungarvan Golf Club moved home several times before moving to its current location at Knocknagranagh in 1993. Maurice Fives designed the current parkland course and the layout can be stretched to just less than 6,800 yards from the back markers. A number of water features come into play – at holes 7 to 9 on the old front nine and holes 10, 11 and 18 on the new back nine – and they contribute, in no small measure, to the challenge of the layout.

All three clubs mentioned are part of the “Dungarvan Golf Triangle” and visitors can play the three parkland courses for the price of two green fees – what an opportunity, if you are in the area, to sample each to find out which is your favourite!

World Top 100 Golf Courses

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
