Eagle Ridge
The Eagle Ridge Golf Course started out as Carlogie Golf Course until additional land became available in the late1980s to expand the layout to eighteen holes, with 1958 Australian Amateur champion Kevin Hartley called in to set out the new course.
After a change of ownership in the mid-1990s, Phil Ryan from Pacific Coast Design devised a Course Improvement Plan which led to the conversion of fairways to Santa Ana couch, a more drought-tolerant grass that normally provides an excellent playing surface.
The 110-acre property was sold in 2015 to a Melbourne-based family and they have maintained the same high standard of conditioning on the course since then, ensuring that this enterprising pay-and-play facility leads the way for public-access golf on the peninsula.
The short holes here are noteworthy: the 170-metre 6th plays to a two-tiered putting surface; the 155-metre 8th presents “a sea of sand” around the green; the 153-metre 11th features a waterfall and beach bunker; and the 204-metre 17th has rough growing short of the green to catch errant tee shots.
