Echo Valley Country Club is a 27-hole facility located 10 minutes from downtown Des Moines. It was founded in 1969 by E.C. “Eddie” Coppola and Hy Diamond. The land on which Echo Valley was built had been used by Coppola to raise quarter horses including Hall of Fame Member, Coy's Bonanza. Larry Packard designed the original 18 holes which now comprise the Vale and Creek courses. The newest 9, The Ridge, was designed by Rick Robbins and built in 2004. The 3 courses present different settings and challenges and rotate to provide a daily 18 and off 9 that can be used for extra golf or family rounds.
The Creek is a position course with Middle Creek and ponds in play on 7 of 9 holes. The Vale is a more traditional Packard with tree lined holes over flatter land and back to front sloping greens. The Ridge has more elevation change and is a modern fescue lined design with collection areas, false fronts and more undulating greens ending with the risk/reward par 5 9th that tiers down the hill and provides views of downtown Des Moines. Rick Robbins has also been involved with renovating the original 9s in 2011 and 2023. The primary purpose of the renovation was to make enhancements and expansions to the greens, rebuild the bunkers and update the irrigation/drainage.
