Effingham Golf Club

Routed on magnificent land once used as hunting grounds for King Henry VIII, Effingham charmed me with its character and quite wondrous and expansive views which stretch all the way to the City of London some 20+ miles away.

Some courses have natural advantages, firm ground and elevation being two that characterise a number of downland courses, both on the North and South Downs to the south of London.

It was a huge pleasure to recently tee it up at Effingham on a warm August afternoon, given the number of reviews on this site the course seems not to have the cachet of its more illustrious Surrey neighbours which is odd given the quality of product it delivers.

Played here for the first time on Monday of this week in the clubs Seniors Open.

One of the courses that has always been on my ‘Must Play’ list is Effingham.

There is plenty to enjoy at Effingham.

The inclusion of Effingham in Golf World Magazine’s recent “Top 100 golf courses of England” peaked my interest in this Surrey downland course located just outside the London Orbital.
