The Efteling theme park is situated an hour's drive from the port of Rotterdam and it's the largest in the Netherlands, predating even Disneyland, which opened in the USA three years after the Dutch attraction was established in 1952.

Over three million visitors arrive every year to enjoy the delights of Efteling and, since 1995, golfers have been able to take advantage of this Donald Steel-designed golf course that was developed to expand the appeal of the theme park to a wider audience.

Surrounded by a couple of nature reserves, the layout has a very rustic feel to it with significant water hazards appearing at half a dozen holes, three on the front nine (5, 6 and 7) and three on the back nine (15, 17 and 18).

Fairways are generally wide and open, leading to large, cleverly contoured greens that are protected by minimalist mounds and bunkers.

I was very disappointed when I played this course, the greens were awful. It was in October so they were under maintenance but still, winter greens would have been smoother. There is nothing really special about this course, apart from a few gimmicks referring to the nearby Efteling theme park.

I fully agree. This is not a good golf course. I have the feeling that the list of Dutch courses on this website needs a thorough update. Courses like Cromstrijen, Herkenbosch, Domburg don't belong to the top 25 in Holland either.

Absolutely Martin! Some courses that should be featured on this website aren't there such as Lauswolt, De Gelpenberg, Noord-Nederlandse G&CC , and Het Rijk van Nunspeet. Some of the top courses according to this site do not belong there, although I do think Herkenbosch is a pretty decent track. De Rosendaelsche should be ranked way higher. I'm curious what you think is the best course in the Netherlands!
