Have been lucky enough to visit the El Rompido resort for the Mail on Sunday Classic Finals played over the North Course. This is a superb resort. The North Course is a very fair test but a tough track no doubt with as quick a putting surfaces as I have ever encountered. There are severe undulations and you have to be under the hole as was proved throughout our trip..The first is a par 4 in excess of 400 yards and is the stroke index 1. It takes 2 pretty good digs to be aboard one of the flatter greens on the course. There are some great but brutal holes on the front with the run from 4 through 9 being a great stretch of holes including the toughest par 3 (6) and par 5 (8) I think I have ever played! The back 9 begins with a very tough driving hole probably the toughest drive on the course and winds it's way back home around the nature reserve. Enjoy the view from 13 as it is simply breath-taking and although not the longest, probably my favourite hole on the course with another treacherous green. The closing holes are superb too with 16 being another great par 3 across the edge of the reserve to a slim elevated green with long coffin bunkers each side. A par here is hard earned. the par 4 seventeenth is a lay up hole short of the ditch leaving 200 yards to another elevated green and will stay in memory for dubious reasons! 18 is a par 5 and again par here is very satisfying.El Rompido North really is a tough test and shooting to your handicap here will give you a great deal of satisfaction. I would say that this is no resort course but a true championship course.A mention for the practise facilities as they are pretty damn good too.
