Having played the Faldo course near to Vilamoura in Portugal I had some idea what to expect when I arrived at Elea, but this course knocks spots off it's Algarve counterpart. We played it for a very reasonable 90 Euros, and from the outset it is a truly class act. The clubhouse is absolutely stunning, and whilst the backdrop towards Pafos can at times leave something to be desired, this course really does deliver a stern test of golf, measuring 6300 yards from the whites. The 1st is a relatively straightforward downhill par 4, followed by the par 5 2nd which gives an idea of what is to come. A creek crosses the fairway to catch a poorly struck second shot, and the approach to the green is heavily bunkered giving several choices but making club and shot selection key. There are several holes when the approach has to carry scrub, notably the 17th, which has the added problem of a severely sloping fairway which feeds anything other than a well struck drive towards trouble. The greens are up there with the best I have putted on, and certainly as good as those at Monte Rei in the Eastern Algarve. Whilst not the cheapest course in Cyprus, from my experience it is by far the best and should be added to everyone's must play list.
