Euphoria

The course was designed by Annika Sorenstam and Stan Eby of European Golf Design The course located at Euphoria Golf Estate and Hydro is located in the foothills the Waterberg Mountains, where you usually only see the hole is playing at this gorgeous course of bushveld. It's widely regarded as one of the top courses for birdwatching and players who are twitchers will observe more than 100 species on every day.

It was first opened to play in the year 2008 It's part of a stunning residential complex that's was designed in the name of the Erasmus family of farmers on land which belonged to them. The course is the only African project carried out through EGD in addition to Annika's second Signature golf course after Mission Hills, Shenzhen.

In spite of the fact it's over 7,700 feet off the white tees Annika claims that the course "will favor the player who is strategic rather than the heavy player". We believe she's referring golfers who play on two of the most forward sets of tees. Reds are 5659 yards while the greens measure 6556 yards as all blue and second-tier tees need golf balls to propel it all the way 7,194 yards on this course.

The 11th hole, a short par four, is a candidate for being the hole of the year. The first shot from the tee is played across a stream that runs it's way down on the right side of the fairway over a couple of solitary Marula trees, before heading towards the only green with two levels in the entire course. The hole is followed after by another superb hole, a par four. From the tee golfers have the chance to take in the view from the highest point of the course prior to launching on the fairway, which curves towards the left.

Jeremy Slessor, MD of European Golf Design, kindly said the following:

The course is situated within of the Waterberg mountain range in Limpopo and located just two hours to the north from Johannesburg, Euphoria Golf Estate & Hydro is the first course of golf designed by a female on the African continent. Annika Sorenstam, along with Stan Eby of European Golf Design created the course to reward players who play like she did throughout her career, using a strategy-based approach and not just sheer power. According to her "You need to consider every shot. The course will reward those who think, and also play strategically."

With views of unspoiled bushveld The goal was to develop and design the course in order to protect and increase the diversity of native nature and wildlife. The fairways, which are wide and undulating, are surrounded by a zone of wild native grasses as well as deep bunkers, and a natural ravine that runs through a number of holes, creating both fascination and challenging. The course, starting from back tees plays up to 7,055m in length however, it is situated at a height of close to 1 mile high, the ball goes around 10% further than it would normally. If you start from the forward tees the course measures a more relaxed 5145m. Annika's distinctive method was to make sure that everyone could play the course with particular attention paid to the positioning on the forward tees providing juniors, ladies and seniors the chance to play in the nature of this estate.
