There seems to be a high congruence between courses which have a ships mast style flagpole near the first tee and an enjoyable golfing experience and Fairhaven continues this trend.

One of the great attributes to a trip to Lancashire is that one can play eight good to great golf courses while staying at the same hotel.

The ‘Royal’ is the most well known of Lytham St Annes’s golf courses but nearby Fairhaven, designed by James Braid and opening for play exactly 100 years ago in 1924, is an excellent alternative test with its varied links and parkland style.

Always a pleasure to play this magnificent course, and even better in glorious sunshine last week.

Having had the chance to play Fairhaven half a dozen times in the last few years means I've seen it differently, from bone dry and running forever to the latest time, after an unseasonably wet period.

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
