Falcon

The small commuter town of Hudson is situated around 60 kilometres west of downtown Montreal and Falcon Golf lies just outside this small municipality, close to the south west bank of the lower Ottawa River.

Architect Graham Cooke designed the golf course at the start of the new millennium and it’s a layout that’s been described as “compact, yet challenging and beautiful,” extending to just over 7,100 yards from the back markers.

Falcon blends in beautifully with its surroundings, with tree-lined fairways weaving across a gently undulating landscape. A recurring design theme is the use of long narrow waste areas and these can be found at half the holes on the layout.

Stroke index 1 arrives very early in the round at the 2nd, a medium-length par five that veers to the right. The other par five on the outward half is encountered at the 8th, which doglegs in the opposite direction to a green guarded by sand and water hazards.

The back nine is configured somewhat unconventionally, comprising three par threes, three par fours and three par fives. The short holes are of particular interest with the 206-yard 12th playing from an elevated tee to a water-protected green, the 189-yard 15th featuring a putting surface that’s all of sixty yards deep and the 164-yard 17th offering a great birdie opportunity.
