Review for Finca Cortesin

Reviewer Score:

Played at Finca Cortesin after seeing some promotion at the Open Championship at Carnoustie and thought I would give it a try. The course is very young but the early signs are encouraging – I loved the design which is very varied and of a high standard. I played from the white tees (wasn’t confident of trying the black ones) and the par of 72 was a tough test – especially the par 3’s which are really hard. There is a lot to do at the resort in terms of getting everything complete (hotel, shops, villas etc. should be next year) but if the luxurious clubhouse is anything to go by, then the standard will be very high. The staff appear to be under instruction to make the golfer’s day memorable and they certainly do. The welcome is fantastic and nothing is too much trouble for them – when you receive attention like this, you do not forget it. At many courses the role of the course marshall is not well received by golfers, it is certainly different here – as well as checking if all is ok during your round, they even bring food and drink to you as and when you need it – great touch. One more thing to mention about the course, there are some long walks from green to tee, so the buggy option is not essential but must be considered. Overall as a course rating this is easily a 5-ball and when matured, could become a 6-ball
