The golf club at Forsbacka was formed in 1969 and – after a lot of hard work by volunteers on site – seven holes of the new golf course were in play by the summer of 1971, though it would take a further three years before members completed the full layout.

Located close to Åmål, a small town on the edge of Lake Vänem, the largest inland body of water in western Europe, the 18 holes of the Forsbacka course are set in a rather hilly, forested estate with a large lake featuring prominently in the routing.

The front nine holes are parkland in nature, laid out on one side of Lake Forsbacka and wayward golfers run the risk of losing balls in the water that runs along the left side of holes 6 to 8.

The back nine veers away from the water with fairways becoming a lot tighter as they rise and fall through beautiful woodland, returning to the clubhouse at the right doglegged home hole.

Visitors are advised to consider an overnight stay close to the first tee as the club has restored a beautiful old 18th century manor house that’s now a boutique hotel named Jägmästaren.
