Freshwater Bay Golf Club

Situated on free draining downland located high above the west coast of the Isle of Wight, the course at Freshwater Bay Golf Club is laid out on a Site of Special Scientific Interest that’s owned by the National Trust.

The layout is routed along the clifftops in an out-and-back fashion and it measures a modest 5,718 yards in total length, with par fixed at 69 (34 out then 35 in). A round here starts with a par three and there are back-to-back short holes on 14 and 15.

Other highlights include the only par five on the outward half at the 493-yard 8th, along with back-to-back par fives at the 11th and 12th, with the coastal footpath running along the right side of the fairway on both holes.

The par four 6th is a tough hole (rated stroke index 2) with the fairway sloping right to left, and the finishing hole – named Pit after the deep fairway depression close to the green – is another notable hole, with tumuli to the left and out of bounds to the right as you approach the home green.
