Frösåker (Stora)

An hour’s drive west of Stockholm, the 27-hole Frösåker Golf and Country Club is a safe haven from the hustle and bustle of the busy Swedish metropolis. Here you will find two modern courses (the 18-hole Stora and the 9-hole par three Links) laid out in idyllic surroundings, adjacent to Frösåker nature reserve.

Opened in 1987, the Stora course is situated on the northern shore of lovely Lake Mälaren and, because of its location on low-lying land so close to the lake, small ponds come into play at more than half the holes on both the front and back nine.

Two of the most memorable holes on the Stora's outward half are the par five 1st and 8th holes. They each measure 565 yards and are double doglegged, bending first to the right and then left with water threatening the drive on the left of the fairway at both holes.

Hole 17 is stroke index 1 on the scorecard and for good reason. With out of bounds down the left off the tee, the hole kinks after around 265 yards, leaving an approach of approximately 145 yards along a tree-lined section of fairway to a pulpit green set into the side of a raised area of ground. This potential card-wrecker is a really tough hole to tackle so late in a round.
