Scarecrow represents David McLay Kidd's latest design triumph at Gamble Sands, Washington. Opening August 2025, this dramatic clifftop layout showcases sweeping Columbia River vistas across 300 acres of untouched terrain. The course features smaller, contoured greens and distinctive bunkering, creating an intimate counterpart to the original Sands course.

I still give a slight edge to the original course, but Scarecrow is a worthy second at Gamble Sands.

DMK killed it with his newest US course, Scarecrow, which tests players in a very different way than the nearby Sands course but is still equally as fun.

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
