The Glen Club
The Glen Club is located on the former location of the Glenview Naval Air Station north of Chicago, which required significant earthmoving on the part of Tom Fazio to make this club a reality. More than 2.5 million cubic yards of earth were moved — compare that to 3 million up the Lake Michigan shore at Whistling Straits — and you’ll understand the effort taken to transform this property into a worthy setting for golf.
The course features elevation changes that were not otherwise possible, as much as 40 feet on some holes. Still, for as constructed as it may be, there was a commitment to keeping its visage natural, in the form of constructed streams and more than 75 acres of prairie grass.
Fazio did some work with his golf course architect’s hat on as well, of course. One of the highlights is the par threes, which strategically face in four separate directions, altering play based on how the dramatic winds blow off of the lake in the “Windy City.”
The course stretches to nearly 7,100 yards from the back tees.
