Glen Gorse
Occupying a compact 105-acre property on the southeast outskirts of Leicester, the 18-hole layout at Glen Gorse Golf Club extends to almost 6700 yards from the back markers, playing to a par of 72, with the course routing bringing play back to the clubhouse at the 12th.
Holes are laid out on a wedge-shaped property which increases in width from around 200 metres at the clubhouse to 500 metres at the far end of the layout, where the par five 5th is one of the very few holes that are not orientated on a northeast-southwest axis.
Highlight holes on this tree-lined track include both the par threes on the front nine at the 4th and 9th, consecutive par fives at the 12th and 13th, and the run of three long, demanding par four finishing holes which ends at the 43-metre-long, two-tiered home green.
Leicestershire & Rutland
The county of Leicestershire is home to over half a million people in an area that covers around 800 square miles and it borders seven other counties in central England. Because foxhunting is widely regarded to have originated in Leicestershire, you’ll find a bushy tailed mammal on the logo of the main sporting organizations in the county (such as the county cricket club and Leicester City Football Club) so it’s no surprise to find such a vulpine image on the crest of the Leicestershire & Rutland Golf Union.
