Gary Player pocketed £1,000 when he won The Open at Muirfield in 1959. No doubt inspired by his first major title, the Black Knight laid out the course at GlenArbor Golf Club in 2001 with Muirfield's routing – outward nine running clockwise around the edge and the inward nine run anti-clockwise inside the front nine.

Nestled in the rolling hills of Westchester county, the club has a golfing connection that goes back more than a hundred years to the start of the 20th century, when the property was owned by Harold T. White, whose wife Ruth Underhill won the fifth edition of the U.S. Women’s Amateur in 1899 at Philadelphia Country Club's Bala course, which no longer exists. The trophy she won is proudly displayed in the GlenArbor clubhouse.

The club was created on four lasting principles, impacting on every aspect of its operation, and they underscore the GlenArbor experience: the traditions of golf (emphasizing camaraderie and friendly competition) stewardship of the land (with a dedication to conservation); a commitment to giving back (through charitable partnerships); and life time learning (with ongoing education).
