Golden Eagle

Virginia, as partial home to the United States capital, is associated quite frequently with Bald Eagles, the national bird. One should not forget the Golden Eagle, another majestic bird species (and a golf offering closer to Richmond, Virginia’s major city). The club is the primary golf accompaniment to the Tides Inn near the Chesapeake Shores.

Like the title bird, players will be expected to soar at several points during this George Cobb from the ‘70s. The first instance will come at No. 5, a dogleg left that requires a Cape-style tee shot across the water to the area of fairway players feel most confident landing. A second forced carry will come during the approach, albeit a shorter one.

The closing holes during both nines share similar tendencies, as players will drive out on these mid-length par fours, and then make a carry of about 75 yards over Golden Eagle Pond in order to reach safety. The course measures just more than 7,000 yards from the tips, and those playing from these tees can probably write off about 450 yards to various carries of the lake throughout the round. Confidence is key!
