Golden
Golden Golf Club can trace its roots all the way back to 1935, when the club was first established. The current 18-hole layout was created in two stages, Bill Newis fashioning the front nine in 1986 then Les Furber adding a complementary back nine a decade later.
Located in Columbia Valley, to the west of the Rockies, the club is a strong community-based organization that takes great pride in throwing its doors open to visitors on a daily pay and play basis. Commendably, a discounted green fee is also offered to golfers who choose to walk.
With both nines carved out of dense woodland, fairways are inevitably tight and tree lined and almost every non-par three holes bends one way or the other off the tee. On the Newis nine, the Columbia River runs all along the left side of the 540-yard 6th, where the fairway turns sharply right towards the target.
On the newer Furber nine, the 378-yard downhill 11th is considered as the signature hole on the property as the fast flowing waters of Holt Creek tumble along the right side of this hole before veering diagonally across the fairway in front of the green.
Golden boasts as “Amen Corner” of holes between the 14th and 16th: the 403-yard 14th has water to the right and beyond the green, the 395-yard 15th veers right to a raised green and the downhill par three 16th is threatened by the Holt Creek running along the right side of the fairway.
World Top 100 Golf Courses
The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
