The Granite Club – founded as a curling club in 1836 – is a Toronto sports club that decided at the end of the 1990s to extend its sporting reach into golf and so Thomas McBroom was enlisted to lay out a course for members on the outskirts of the city.

The respected architect was involved in every aspect of the course development – acquisition of the site through the process of obtaining permits to construction – so the Granite Club is certainly worthy of its McBroom signature course accreditation.

Set in the Oak Ridges Moraine within more than 200 acres of pristine property, the course can best be described as classical in nature with a modern twist, where the front nine holes are routed through wetland forest whilst the back nine play through hardwood forest and meadow land.

McBroom’s designs are well known for their sympathetic use of the terrain and here he has seamlessly woven the 18 holes into the contours of the landscape, creating a natural course that the members delight to walk in – with no adjacent housing developments or highways to distract, Granite Club is a most relaxing golfing getaway in the countryside to the north of Toronto.
