Grey Oaks Country Club is exactly what you expect when you think of Floridian golf. A very nice country club experience with all the trimmings and amenities with green grass, blue water, white bunkers, and golf intertwined with real estate on each side of the golf hole...
There are three golf courses on the property. The Palm Course features a waterfall and bulk-headed island greens. The Estuary Course is 'carved among original stands of pine, Cypres and oak trees'. Despite those compelling descriptions, it is the Pine Course we are interested in. The original architect of the Pine's and Palm's course was Lloyd Clifton. Bob Cupp designed the Estuary course with Tim Liddy reimagining them in recent years.
On the Pine's Course, six sets of tees allow play from 4289 yards to 7120 yards. The classic par 72 layout also has the requisite four par 5's and four par 3's. The routing will have been set in place so Andrew Green will have had to be quite smitten to see potential in the project.
His objectives were threefold: 1) Improve the playing experience, 2) make maintenance easier, and 3) enhance the aesthetics. How did he achieve these goals? Re-bunkering, expanded greens, widening of the fairways, and shaping of the surrounds.
Golf Course Industry reported that the renovation began in February of 2023 and was completed in July of the same year. August to November was earmarked for the grow in after which it was opened for play. In addition to the Pine's Course, Andrew Green also designed and built the short game facility and practice area.
