Hacienda Nueva
Located on the south east side of Guatemala City, next to the Altavista Golf and Tennis Club, the Hacienda Nueva Country Club sits in the grounds of a former Jesuit monastery where many of the old 16th century buildings have been retained.
The course itself is a Larry Packard design that debuted in 1996 and fairways that were first sown with a mix of Rye and Bentgrass have now been changed to Kikuya, though the original Bentgrass greens remain intact.
The eighteen holes occupy a long, narrow valley with most of the tree-lined fairways laid out four abreast in a north easterly or south westerly direction. Bunkering around the course is rather sparse but where sand traps do exist, they’ve been strategically placed to protect par.
World Top 100 Golf Courses
The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
