Situated on the northern shore of Lake Haggen, the initial 9-hole course at Hagge Golfklubb was designed by Nils Sköld in 1964. Following a club name change (from Västerbergslagen GK) six years later, Sune Linde added another nine holes in 1990.
Today, the course extends to 5,499 metres from the back tees, with par set at 71 (35 out then 36 in). Holes are arranged as two returning nines, each of which end with a birdieable par five close to the clubhouse.
Lake Haggen comes into play on a couple of holes. The first of these is at the 129-metre 3rd, where the tee shot is played across a little inlet to the green, and the second lakeside hole is encountered on the short par four 16th, with the fairway doglegging sharply right round another small inlet.
Other holes of note include the 361-metre 2nd, with the lake backdropping the green. Similarly, players who’re too long with their tee shot on the 148-metre 7th might end up with a lost ball in the water behind the putting surface.
On the back nine, the fairway on the 325-metre 11th narrows considerably to avoid a sizeable pond to the front left of the green (meriting a stroke index 2 rating), and the closing hole also features a little pond to the front right of the home green.
