Hamilton

Known as the Wool Capital of the World, the rural town of Hamilton is located in the southwest of Victoria and the municipality's golf club (founded in 1896) claims to be the oldest in the state still playing along its original fairways.

The course was a 9-hole layout until 1933 when eighteen holes with grass greens came into play. Thirty years later, the original 86-acre property was augmented by another adjacent 60 acres, with Major Jock Whillans appointed to set out a championship-standard course. It then took another decade before the new layout was officially opened in 1973 by the president of the Victoria Golf association, Mr. J.R. Lovett.

Today, the course extends to just over 6,000 metres, playing to a par of 72, configured as two returning nines. Highlight holes include the double doglegging par five 4th and the strong par four 8th which bends right to a green that slopes markedly from back to front. On the back nine, the last of the par threes at the 16th is a formidable short hole, played to a 2-tiered green, with the 455-metre 18th narrowing considerably as it reaches the home green.
