Österhaninge, Sweden
Haninge Golfklubb, located at Årsta Slott south of Stockholm, is proud of having fostered not only Ryder Cup hero Alex Norén but also Vincent Norrman and Kristoffer Broberg, winners on the PGA and DP World Tour respectively. Behind these three names there have been many others trying their luck at higher levels in amateur and professional golf. The nearby golfgymnasium (senior secondary sports college for 16-19-year olds) ensures that the talent pipeline does not run dry.

Slottsbanan (The Castle Course),the club’s 18-hole parkland track follows a routing from the mid-1980s by Jan Sederholm, but owes its current look to a redesign by Christian Lundin, completed in 2023. This rebuild transformed conventional bunkering and mainly flat greens into a strategic design with more interesting green complexes. To get a feel for how the course played before rebuild, visitors can also try the nine-hole loop, Ängsbanan (The Meadow Course), laid out in an open landscape in 1991 by Carl Edward Montgomery.
The club is perhaps also fortunate to count one of Sweden’s successful IT entrepreneurs among its members. Patrik Stymne sponsored club head pro Adam Adolfsson in building first-class indoor facility Golfverket in 2021 before taking over an 80% interest and the club’s debts in 2024. Visions of taking the facility into the top 20 courses in Sweden might still be some way off, but with such high ambitions the next few years at Haninge will be interesting.
The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
